The 2024 NFL season is going to be a pivotal one for the Carolina Panthers as they need to figure out whether or not Bryce Young is the franchise quarterback they were hoping for when they took him first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Young’s rookie season was underwhelming and it was even more discouraging to see C.J. Stroud shine with the Houston Texans.

The Panthers only managed to win two games during the 2023 NFL season, a dismal showing for a team that came into the year with some hope and optimism.

Carolina was a mess on both sides of the field, though the defense did have its fair share of flashes.

Brian Burns showed he’s still one of the best pass rushers in the league, though he and the Panthers have yet to agree to terms on an extension.

Instead, it appears Burns could be on his way out as Carolina is reportedly not going to engage in contract talks, via Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

I’m told the Panthers informed Brian Burns during the Combine this past week that they aren’t continuing contract talks—at this time, per source,” Anderson reported.

Without a new deal in place, the most likely outcome is the Panthers trade Burns.

They aren’t likely to get the same value in a return compared to had they shipped him out last trade deadline, but they should still net a decent asset.

Burns could help any team next season because there’s no such thing as having too much pass rushing talent along the defensive line.
