The New York Jets’ era of dysfunction reached a new low after a report from The Athletic detailed a team more concerned with how their starting quarterback felt than building a winning franchise.

Aaron Rodgers remained the center of attention on the team throughout the 2023 offseason and then even as the Jets lost him to an Achilles injury in Week 1.

The report from The Athletic noted that the team had no idea what it was doing when Rodgers went down and didn’t fix things in 2024 because the Jets cared more about appeasing Rodgers than anything else.

Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd said all of this strengthened his belief that the Jets wouldn’t make the playoffs in 2024 because of their ineptitude in the front office.

“I didn’t think they’d be a playoff team this year and I don’t think they’re a playoff team next year,” Cowherd said. “You win upstairs first.”

The Jets were one of the most-hyped teams in 2023 because of the installation of Rodgers on a young and exciting team full of quality talent on offense and defense.

New York looked the part at times even without Rodgers this past season after the team beat the Buffalo Bills, almost beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and then ended the Philadelphia Eagles’ undefeated season all before them midway point in the season.

But the team crumbled under the pressure of it’s poor offensive game planning under offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and poor play under center from Zach Wilson and other backups.

It’s unclear if anything will change in 2024, but the hope for the Jets is Rodgers will be back and healthy for the year.
